Short Eco Farm Day Tours
We require minimum 4 participants per day. You may book 1-3 places, and if we do not get minimum of 4 bookings for that day we will offer you an alternate day or a full refund.
We will collect all participants from the main Byron Bay bus stand in our hemp van for the short 7 minute drive to the hemp farm, so please pack all that you will need (*see below)
Short eco tours or farm tours are guided farm tours where you will be taken round to each of the stages of growing, processing, harvesting and production of industrial hemp. You will have an opportunity to use equipment when practical and time permits. In the dedicated hemp museum we have small factory demonstration units that produce hemp oil, hemp chocolate and hemp ice-cream. We will use at least two of these machines while you are here! There is always time for questions & answers at this, our most popular fun tour. Photography is permitted!
We are a working permaculture hemp farm. Although we have modern facilities available for any weather, you will need to wear practical clothing. We require you wear closed in shoes. We highly recommend you bring/wear:
Sun hat
Sun screen
Long sleeve breathable clothing (trousers and top)
Change of clothes for full days
Mosquito repellent
Sowing & Harvesting Days
Although unlikely, due to weather changes or other significant events beyond our control we reserve the right to cancel the event up to 24 hours before and will notify you by phone (where possible) and email as supplied. We will do our best to re-schedule as soon as practical. If you cannot make the new date we will give you a credit that you may use anytime within the next twelve months and on request a free gift worth $25.
We will not cancel unless we really have to, so if it is looking wet please bring gum boots and wet weather gear including a change of dry clothing. If you are not sure, feel free to contact us.
Hemp Processing Days
Although very similar to harvesting days, these days are held after the main harvest. We plan to leave some stalks standing so you may see them in the field and you should have an opportunity to harvest some hemp.
See weather warning as Sowing & Harvesting days.
This day is designed to focus on the processing of hemp fibre and hemp seed post-ret. You will learn how to separate the fibre from hurd and learn the many uses of the hemp seeds. This will be as experiential as you are comfortable with. There is plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the show if you prefer.
On hemp processing days we will make paper from either hemp pulp, recycled hemp paper, recycled paper or banana fibre (grown on the land), dependent on what is available to us at the time. All aspects of paper making will be described in detail.
